Listen, Dukey. Who worries about a few spills?
~ Smudger's only dialog

Smudger is the main antagonist of the Thomas and Friends episode, "Granpuff". He was a former Mid Sodor railway engine who was turned into a generator after not taking the warnings of Duke seriously.

In the UK Dub he was voiced by the late Michael Angelis and by the late George Carlin in the US Dub.

Why isn't He heroic or villainous?[]

  • He only ever has one appearance in the entire franchise and does nothing heroic. On the other hand he has no villainous acts and is more of a nuisance then an out right villain.

Biography[]

Smudger was a Mid Sodor Railway Engine who was often getting into trouble as he had a habit of riding roughly and coming off the rails. Despite numerous warnings from Duke, Smudger would ignore him and eventually would be turned into a generator and put in the back of a shed. When Duke was retrieved from the Mid Sodor, railway Smudger was never mentioned or brought up and has never been seen since.

Appearance[]

Smudger was a small green Fletcher Jennings Class Bb engine with a tall and thin funnel with a rectangular cab and round windows as well as his name being written on his sides. He had a round face with pronounced eyebrows.

Personality[]

Smudger was a mischievous engine who didn't take his work seriously, as he laughed at Duke's warning. He only seemed to really become worried when he was turned into a generator.

Trivia[]

  • His face would be reused for Bertram and his body was reused for Rheneas.
  • He is the first Thomas & Friends character to be added to the Neutral Characters Wiki.
  • He was named after Sir John Smudgerington III.
