Splatter and Dodge are one-time characters in the Thomas And Friends franchise, serving as the secondary antagonists of Thomas and the Magic Railroad.

They were purple and green 08 diesel engines who served as Diesel 10's former henchmen.

Splatter was dubbed by Neil Crone, while Dodge was dubbed by Kevin Frank.

Why aren't they heroic or villainous?[]

  • While they both support diesel 10 at first, neither of them do anything particularly malicious and they even stop following Diesel 10 towards the end of the film.

Personality[]

Both engines are simple-minded, awkward, cowardly and tend to banter. Splatter is the more talkative of the two, while Dodge is more intelligent.

Biography[]

Splatter and Dodge are both first seen near the rock art that Diesel 10 sculpted, notifying their boss about their arrival. Diesel 10 then says he has a job for them, but Splatter and Dodge correct him after he refers to them as "Splodge." Diesel 10 claims that he doesn't have time to say both names before saying he's come back to find a steam engine. Not knowing it was specifically Lady, Splatter and Dodge say that it's easy due to the fact that steam engines are everywhere on Sodor, Diesel 10 then says that the other steam engines exist as long as Lady does. Right before he could say what would happen if Lady was destroyed, Splatter and Dodge questioned Diesel 10 and asked if he was going to hurt her, Diesel 10 says yes, but Splatter and Dodge inform him that Mr. Conductor is coming and that he won't let him destroy Lady. Diesel 10 then claims he can do whatever he wants and plans to get Mr. Conductor, right before he comedically gets hit on the head by his claw Pinchy, causing the two to laugh.

Splatter and Dodge are later seen at Tidmouth Sheds when Thomas was collecting some trucks, they were both watching as Harold was flying by on his routine fly-by check. Knowing that Diesel 10 stuffed sneezing powder into Harold, the two laughed and let it happen, this suddenly backfires as Splatter and Dodge also got covered in the sneezing powder. Thomas then leaves the sheds with the trucks he was collecting, assuming that it was Diesel 10's doing.

Splatter and Dodge then join Diesel 10 in a meeting outside of the smelters, they both listen to Diesel 10's plans in saying he's going to kill Mr. Conductor now that he knows about the magic buffers. A witnessing Toby then causes a distraction by ringing his bell, startling the twins and forcing Diesel 10 to make the sheds collapse onto them. Toby then leaves, proud of what he did to briefly prevent further discussion. Splatter and Dodge then ask Diesel 10 if he meant for the roof to fall onto them, Diesel 10 then claims he always means what he does.

Splatter and Dodge are later seen at the coaling plant, questioning Diesel 10 for letting Mr. Conductor escape. Diesel 10 tries to defend himself and claims he did it on purpose as it was only a test, Splatter and Dodge knew he was lying and continued to gossip. Diesel 10 then interrupts their chatter and thinks of a new lesson called "how to stop being stupid", which was ironic considering Diesel 10 used his claw to hit the chute of the coal hopper and cause a bunch of coal to fall on him. James and Gordon laugh at the sight of this. Once the coal finished dumping onto Diesel 10, he says it's gonna ruin his facial. Splatter and Dodge then groan afterwards.

Splatter and Dodge are later seen spotting the magic buffers during the night, as Percy had found out that they just discovered their location. During this, they all get terrified at the spooky surroundings that were making their wheels wobble.

Later, Splatter and Dodge grow tired of working for Diesel 10 and quit, redeeming themselves in the process. They tell Diesel 10 to go destroy Thomas and Lady himself and admit that they don't like him. Afterwards, they were never seen again.

Trivia[]

  • Their models were the same ones used for Arry & Bert, as they were later reverted after the making of the film.
  • Dodge reuses Diesel's chassis as his side rods were painted black, which is why Diesel's side rods remained black since the sixth season of the television series.
  • In the directors cut of the film, Splatter and Dodge were meant to be major antagonists, Diesel 10 was set to be the secondary antagonist and the main villain was a human named P.T. Boomer, who was portrayed by the late Doug Lennox.
    • Boomer was cut from the film entirely as test audiences described him to be too heinous for children.
