The Stygian Zinogre is a Fanged Wyvern first introduced in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. A subspecies of the regular Zinogre species, Stygian Zinogres form a symbiosis with Dracophage Bugs instead of Fulgurbugs, granting them control of the enigmatic Dragon element. Much more aggressive than their regular cousins, they are often hunted to keep nearby humans safe.
Physiology[]
While basically identical to its electrical cousin in morphology, Stygian Zinogre possesses a remarkably different colour scheme. Instead of being cyan, its body is covered in jet-black scales, with the keratinous and horned parts of its body being a light gray. Its eyes also glow a scarlet red, while the fur covering its body is snow white. When enraged, the Stygian Zinogre's eyes spark with red lightning, while bolts of Dragon Energy crackle about it.
Abilities[]
Just like its nominate cousin, Stygian Zinogre is a very powerful monster of great physical might, speed and durability, allowing it to fell prey with a single blow and go toe-to-toe with other apex monsters. However, unlike regular Zinogres, Stygian Zinogres can manipulate Dragon energy thanks to their symbiosis with the Dracophage Bugs, which feed on the Dragon energy-rich Dragonfell Berries. Stygian Zinogre utilises this energy in a similar way to its cousin, unleashing bolts, levitating balls and enhancing its own attacks with Dragon energy. Furthermore, it appears that this Dragon energy serves to keep Stygian Zinogre's body temperature stable in extreme conditions, allowing it to colonise both polar and volcanic areas.
Behavior[]
Stygian Zinogre must be extremely aggressive toward other predators for food and territory since they live in both the tundra and the volcano, where food is not always abundant.
Habitat[]
An inhabitant of extreme conditions, Stygian Zinogre can be found in freezing locales such as the Tundra, Frozen Seaway and Hoarfrost Reach. It can also be found in extremely hot areas like the Volcano, Volcanic Hollow and Elder's Recess.
