| ~ Syrenix before being lured towards the assimilated teams |
Syrenix, real name Gavin, is the main protagonist of [SFM/HORROR] SERVERBLIGHT: Assimilation, the fourth episode of the Serverblight SFM horror series by 2IdiotGermans, and the sixth video in the series. He is a Team Fortress 2 player who fell victim to the enigmatic titular Serverblight.
Syrenix was portrayed by LinoDropsDead, animator of The Empty Server- the series' first episode- and composer for the original soundtracks in the series. In the description of Assimilation, Syrenix is identified as GAVIN.
Biography[]
Past[]
At some point, Gavin acquired a Steam account under the name Syrenix. He took up gaming in his dark, fairly dingy basement, and downloaded Team Fortress 2, where he acquired some cosmetics. He managed to reach a casual level of 147, tier 3, but didn't seem to have any Steam friends who played TF2.
Assimilation[]
One day in either the late afternoon or early morning, Syrenix sat down in his basement to play Team Fortress 2, joining a Dustbowl server that was halfway through the match. Selecting Spy as his class, Syrenix exited the respawn room into the map, cloaking to slip past RED team. He found both teams fighting over the first control point, and got past RED with ease, preparing to backstab one of the members as he uncloaked and disguised. However, he then heard a noise behind him, distracting him and making him look away from the game, resulting in his Spy walking into the line of fire and getting blown up by a RED Demoman. What Syrenix failed to realize is that only after that did the match's timer, which was frozen at 20:11 when he joined, began ticking down as normal.
After Syrenix respawned, he began to feel cold, warming his hands before continuing to play. Syrenix thus disguised as a RED Pyro and exited again, once again slipping behind RED lines. He observed some RED players for a while while cloaked, starting to notice something off about the way they were moving, and suddenly turned to see a RED Sniper staring directly at him. Surprised, Syrenix remained still, and then stepped to the side as the Sniper proceeded to run past him. However, Syrenix did not notice that the Sniper wasn't holding his gun correctly.
Syrenix then looked behind him again in real life to see if something was there, but once again saw nothing. Returning to the game, he promptly backstabbed a RED Medic, running towards the empty final point area as he did- only to look down and see his arms as Spy's arms. Syrenix quickly blinked the effect away, dismissing it as a hallucination before realizing he had been running into a wall in-game. Unnerved, Syrenix asked "what the fuck?" in real life, his in-game Spy mouthing out the same words. He then turned to return to the previous control point, only to feel a hand brush against his shoulder. Startled, Syrenix jolted and turned around in-game, seeing a RED Soldier staring directly at his undisguised form. Instead of attacking, the Soldier ducked out of view, making Syrenix send "what is it with this server" in chat, Spy mouthing out the words.
Another BLU player, Spaghetti sauce, then captured the previous control point, luring Syrenix back to it. However, when he arrived, he found both teams staring directly at him, following him even while he was cloaked, and making Syrenix feel the looming presence of something behind him. The players began advancing towards him, making Syrenix flee- only to run into the same Soldier as before, who was running directly at him while screaming for help in a distorted voice, his fingers distorted and stretched out. It turns out that none of the players Syrenix had seen were real- they were all assimilated members of the Serverblight, a paranormal entity that stalked and absorbed the minds of Team Fortress 2 players on obscure and empty servers. The entire match had been a ruse, with Syrenix failing to notice the "players" not actually shooting each other and moving in repetitive bot-like ways while repeating chat messages. Most importantly, the Serverblight already had a hold on him, being the source of the noise he heard behind him and starting to pull his mind into the game, gradually making him one with his Spy.
Frightened, Syrenix fled down a tunnel system, and desperately tried to disconnect, only to find the disconnect option disabled. Additionally, when Syrenix tried looking away from the screen, he only saw the map that his Spy was currently in. Hearing the distorted Soldier following him, Syrenix then made a run for it, emerging from the tunnels at another point and deciding to end the game by capturing the last point, hoping it would free him. Finding the point unguarded, Syrenix quickly stepped on it to begin the capture- only for the capture to be blocked. Looking for the source of the blocking, Syrenix then saw the stretched out thumb of a RED Heavy touching the point, the Heavy's distorted hand and arm visible from behind a crate.
Syrenix, terrified, dropped his knife and backed away as the Heavy in question emerged- scubamaster96, a previous victim of the Serverblight, now distorted to a nearly vermiform appearance as part of the gestalt, letting out a distorted roar and repeating "we go together" in chat. Unable to look away from the screen, Syrenix's in-game Spy fell to the ground, frozen in terror as scubamaster96 advanced, other distorted players closing in behind him. The Serverblight's many components then mobbed Syrenix in a mass of distorted hands and fingers, quickly assimilating him into the creature. Syrenix's real body felt a sensation like hands pulling his mouth apart, while in-game, he tried to reach out for help, only to see his hand start to distort and stretch out like the others, making Syrenix let out a final scream that was absorbed in the howling of the Serverblight.
After being assimilated, Syrenix's real body was left slumped lifelessly in his chair, presumably dead or comatose, or worse yet, assimilated in real life as well.
Reflection[]
Some days later, the fully-assimilated Syrenix was sent with other Serverblight components into a Sawmill community server, joining as the players within were ambushed and assimilated. Also in the server was Breadolphin, a player who had initially escaped the Serverblight, and was the only player to survive the ambush. Soon, dicksalot, also one of the first players to escape the Serverblight, also joined the server to help Breadolphin escape.
As the two players made their way across Sawmill, Syrenix, distorted to a hulking form and under complete control of the Serverblight, stalked them from beneath a pond. Here, Syrenix returned to his normal form, and pretended to be Breadolphin's reflection when the latter looked into the waters. Syrenix then vanished and returned to his brute form, the sudden absence of a reflection- something not present in the game- frightening Breadolphin into running off. Syrenix then burst out to attack dicksalot, but dicksalot swiftly killed Syrenix with his shotgun. Syrenix's warped body was then carried off by the extremely distorted HeadshotFraudster, another assimilated victim.
