The Mad Scrub is a minor antagonist in the French-Japanese Animesque TV Show Ōban Star-Racers.
Personality[]
The Mad Scrub is an insane fanatic of Canaletto's ideology. He obeys his master without question and has his door and inside decorated with paints of Canaletto's effigy when the latter was the Avatar. That said, he is, at the same time, extremely afraid of the Timeless One, as he may be probably aware of the latter's ruthlessness. By proxy, every member of the Scrub species are scared of him because of his proximity with the evil god. This is a possible explanation why he lives alone and in retreat of the others Scrubs.

The Mad Scrub is a member of the Scrubs, an alien species native to the Planet Alwas, and a servant of Canaletto. How he comes into contact with him is unknown but it is implied he serves him since a long time.
Ōban Star-Racers[]
His master has a plan to get free of his cage in Oban, and he needs specifically a girl named Eva. Unfortunately, the racer in her team is Rick. Therefore, Canaletto orders the Mad Scrub to sabotage Rick's ship. The Scrub succeeds in doing so right before Eva comes in the shed. He returns to his lair.
After his accident, Rick notices a small piece looking like an explosive left on the accident scene. This leads him to the Mad Scrub's house. At the beginiing, the alien mistakes Rick for Canaletto. Afraid, he inadvertendly reveals that he was the responsible of the crash. Furious, Rick grabs him and asks who told him to sabotage the Star Racer. Realizing that it is not his master, the Mad Scrub says, laughing, that it is the Timeless One. However, a sinister wind blows through the house. Rick asks who it is but the Mad Scrub is too scared to answer and cowers on the ground, leaving Rick unanswered. As soon as Rick leaves, the house begins to shake and darkness invades it. The Mad Scrub sees Canaletto's shadow on the ceiling. The servant, terrified, swears that he didn't reveal anything, but Canaletto decides to eliminate him all the same. He sends a bolt of lightning to the lair, setting it on fire and killing the Scrub.
