The Tractors represent the livestock that Frank is watching over in Radiator Springs. They wander the fields of Ornament Valley every day, eating grass and mowing the ground, behaving like cows. The majority of tractors in the series don't have names, although a few do, including Moo Moo in The World of Cars Online and Betsy in Planes: The Video Game.
Why aren't they heroic or villainous?[]
They just animals that cannot perform any heroic or villainous acts.
Biography[]
North American tractors were domesticated in the 19th century and used to construct the transcontinental railroad, as revealed in their Car Finder bio.
In the movie Cars, when Sheriff assigns Mater the task of keeping an eye on Lightning McQueen for the duration of his community service term, the two slip away to go tractor tipping in Frank's fields. After arriving, Mater drives up to a tractor in silence and honks his horn to teach Lightning how to play. She tipped over in surprise as the tractor awoke to the abrupt noise.
McQueen runs his engine noisily in an attempt to comply with Mater's directions. Lightning's revving wakes up the entire field of tractors, forcing them to tip simultaneously, unlike Mater, who typically just tips one tractor at a time. After laughing at the episode, Mater and McQueen are startled when Frank, the combine that watches after the tractors, wakes up and starts chasing them across the fields. Frank is unable to get through the little gate, but they are able to get away by sneaking through. They don't shut the gate, though, so the tractors may pass through.
Lightning McQueen has a nightmare early the next morning in the Cozy Cone Motel about Frank pursuing him, Chick Hicks, and Strip Weathers in the Motor Speedway of the South. After the race, Frank receives the Piston Cup trophy, then find himself surrounded by tractors, then he awaken from the nightmare.
Following their journey over Tailfin Pass, Lightning and Sally Carrera get home to Radiator Springs to find a herd of tractors, which the locals start pursuing in an attempt to reassemble them. When McQueen pursues the tractor that he sees moving slowly in the direction of Willy's Butte, he finds Doc Hudson practicing around the oval in his racing tires.
The tractors are seen viewing movies like Toy Car Story, Monster Trucks, Inc., and A Bug's Life behind the fence at the Radiator Springs Drive-In Theatre during the credits of the movie.
Trivia[]
- Much like how cows are considered sacred animals in India, Indians in the world of Cars consider tractors sacred and believe that sentient vehicles turn into them after being recycled, as revealed by Ishani in Planes.
