One typical passive mob in beach biomes is the turtle. Scutes, which fall off newborn turtles as they grow into adults, are exclusively found on them.

Habitat[]

In the Overworld, turtles, sometimes in small groups of up to five, lay their eggs on the sand on beaches that get daylight, but not on stony coastlines or its icy variation. Baby turtles make up 10% of all spawning turtles.

Behavior[]

Turtles are able to swim in water and move about on land. They can swim quickly in the water, but they move slowly on land. They wander around aimlessly and run away from attacks, just as other passive mobs. They rarely venture on land to explore, if there is any, and instead try to migrate to the closest water supply with direct sky access when on land. When in an enclosed space, such a player-made enclosure, they often swim in circles if there is water nearby. Although turtles cannot be fastened to leads, a player with seagrass within ten blocks of the turtle can lead it.
