Ukanlos are a species that are from the science fantasy videogame, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. A titanic species of boreal Flying Wyvern, Ukanlos has grown so large that it's completely lost flight, only possessing small bones as remnants of its wings. Powerful to the point of being considered an Elder Dragon previously, Ukanlos's ability to bring down avalanches with its very movements have made it a prioritised target of the Hunters' Guild.
Why aren't they heroic or villainous?[]
While undoubtedly destructive and belligerent, Ukanlos is still an animal and as such, performs these acts out of defensive instinct. It also doesn't seem intelligent enough to possess a moral compass, making any of its harmful acts non-malicious.
Physiology[]
Like its relative Akantor, Ukanlos is a titanic, quadrupedal Flying Wyvern with a noticeable humpback, presumably storing fats to sustain it. It is covered in large silver scutes that form a ridge along its back, and it possesses a light blue underflesh beneath them. It also possesses fang-like scutes on the outside of its jaw. Ukanlos's most noticeable feature is its shovel-like chin, which it uses to dig up snow and break through glaciers as it swims.
Abilities[]
Thanks to its huge size, Ukanlos is basically unmatched in terms of raw physical strength, aside from various Elder Dragons and similarly powerful monsters. It can utilise its massive, shovel-like chin to plow through snow and ice effortlessly, throwing chunks of frozen material at foes. Additionally, its thick scales also protect it from most attacks. Despite appearing large and bulky Ukanlos is surprisingly agile, being capable of making large leaps and bounds around its prey. Additionally, it is a rather good swimmer, often preying on underwater monsters and shattering glaciers as it cruises. Ukanlos also possesses a powerful ice breath which it uses to freeze opponents.
Behavior[]
As it inhabits frigid and resource-scarce environments, Ukanlos is incredibly intolerant of encroachers of its territory, acting violently towards any that approach it. Possessing nearly unparalleled bulk and strength, few apex monsters dare to approach it, with only monsters such as Kushala Daora being able to evenly match it. The Ukanlos's size means that it can basically prey on anything it wants, though its habit of diving suggests it eats fish and other aquatic creatures rather regularly.
Habitat[]
Ukanlos has only ever been found in isolated, icy areas. It has only been discovered in the remotest parts of the Snowy Mountains in the Old World. It has been observed in the Polar Field near the sea in the New World.
