The Unnamed Old Miner is a minor antagonist of the 2025 fantasy action-adventure film A Minecraft Movie, the film adaptation of Mojang's Minecraft video games franchise.
He is an elderly angry miner who is determined to keep children and anyone else of all ages away from the mines, often resorting to chasing them off.
He is portrayed by Craig Mckinney.
Why isn't He Heroic or Villainous?
- While he does scare people away from the mines, he isn't necessarily a villain. Instead, he is just an ordinary human who comes off as rude and cantankerous, lacking any genuine villainous traits. As a result, he is included in this wiki instead.
Personality
Due to his brief role of the film, not much is revealed about the old miner's personality. However, what is known that he is a grumpy and an aggressive miner. He is particularly intent on keeping children, like a young Steve, out of the mine, often resorting to chasing them off. Interestingly, despite the warning sign, he seems to want to exclude anyone, regardless of age, suggesting that he might be a hypocrite.
Appearance
The old miner appears as a wrinkled elderly man dressed in traditional mining attire.
Biography
As a child, Steve dreams of exploring "an abandoned mine just outside town." When he finally approaches the mines, the old miner emerges, growling and shouting at Steve to leave. In a fit of rage, he chases Steve away, preventing the boy's goals.
30 years later, and now an adult, Steve recalls his childhood ambition to become a miner. He returns to the area of the mines, only to find the same miner still guarding it there, growling as he did years ago. After a tense moment, the miner lunged at Steve, but he managed to evade the attack and dashed into the mine. After that, he was never seen again.
Trivia
- Despite his limited screen time, his intense desire to protect the mines has led to a popular theory that he may have been the first person to arrive in the Overworld after the Orb of Dominance was activated, predating Steve's arrival. It is implied that he experienced trauma after leaving the Overworld, leading him to the mines where he hides the cube and takes on the role of a miner to safeguard against intruders.
- Somehow, the old miner doesn't appeared to have aged in the 30 years or even passed away since Steve's childhood.
