Daddy, I want [any item in the scene]
~ Veruca's most infamous catchphrase.
Who went and spoiled her, who indeed?
~ The Oompa Loompas asking why Veruca's parents spoiled her.

Veruca Salt is one of the four main antagonists (alongside Augustus Gloop, Violet Beauregarde, and Mike Teavee) of the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory franchise. She is an English little girl who thinks she is entitled to get anything she wants and is constantly spoiled by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Salt.

In the 1971 film adaptation, she was portrayed by Julie Dawn Cole. In the 2005 film adaptation, she was portrayed by Julia Winter.

Why aren't they heroic or villainous?[]

Physical Appearance[]

TBA

Books[]

She has a very round head and curly red hair with a pink bow on top of her hair. She has blonde skin and black eyes. She wears a white sweater with blue spots and a pink collar on top. She wears a pink miniskirt that resembles a tutu and on the bottom white socks with red outlines and blue ballerina shoes.

1971[]

She is seen with long red hair, brown eyes, brown eyebrows, and chubby cheeks. She appears to be very skinny.

At the beginning of the movie, she is seen wearing a yellow sweater and a brown skirt.

During the tour of the Chocolate Factory, she is seen wearing a red mini dress with a white collar, white sleeves, black buttons and a black belt. She is also seen wearing a pair of Mary Janes.

2005[]

She is seen with long and curly brown hair, pointy brown eyebrows and brown eyes.

In her first appearance, she appears to be wearing a white headband on top of her hair, a mahogony dress with a white collar on top, a white shirt underneath, white socks, and a pair of Mary Janes.

In a flashback, she is seen wearing a white headband, yellow dress (or vest) and a white sweater underneath.

In a second flashback, she is seen with her hair tied into a bun. She is seen wearing a very formal uniform consisting of a black sports jacket, white collared shirt, blue tie, tan trousers and black boots. She is also holding a black hat which she tosses aside.

During the tour of the Choccolate Factory, she now has 2 pigtails. She is seen wearing a pink dress with patterns that has a pink belt and white collar, a gray jacket around her, leggings with red polka dot patterns and a pair of Mary Janes. She is also seen carrying a pink purse that slightly resembles a cat. After being rescued from the garbage chute, she is seen with garbage all over herself. She is the only one of the rotten winners to not have a permanent change in her body as it's mentioned by her father that she will take a bath at the end of the day to wash it all off.

Personality[]

Overall, Veruca is a spoiled little brat. She will stop at nothing to get what she wants. However, this leads to her own downfall as she failed to get the squirrel and flying glass elevator. Unlike her parents, she still didn't learn her lesson at the end.

She is also very stupid, as she underestimated some squirrels and foolishly stood on the good or bad egg tile and fell in. She also thought Willy Wonka's imitating of her daddy's voice was really her daddy speaking.

She is very mean to others too. Although she befriended Violet earlier, she later remarked that she should be put in a county fair.

Regardless, she isn't played without sympathy as the Oompa Loompas blame her parents for spoiling her, as them spoiling her was what made her what she is today.

2005[]

She is seen as one of the winners of the Golden Ticket. Her parents bragged about how she nagged them to get it for so long and how happy she was when she finally got it. She is later seen reading her ticket.

On the day of the visit to Willy Wonka's Chocolate factory, she begged her daddy to be in. When introducing herself to Willy Wonka, he thought her name was a wart you get on a foot and chuckles. She later befriended Violet Bueruguarde on the way in.

She is the first one to spot an Oompa Loompa.

In the scene where Violet turns into a blueberry, she suggested she should be put in a county fair.

In the Squirrel factory, she begs her daddy to get a squirrel for her. When she failed, she gets in by herself and when she tries to get one, they all grab her. A squirrel tests to see if she's a "bad nut" and under the belief that she really is bad, she gets thrown into the garbage chute. The Oompa Loompas come in and sing a song lamenting her fall and asking her parents why they spoiled her. Then he gets thrown into the garbage chute.

The very last scene has her get out of the chocolate factory all covered up in garbage and filth. She asks for a flying glass elevator but her father declines and tells her she will only get a bath tonight. After this, they walk out to the crowd where they were likely interviewed for her awful experience and she is never seen again after that.

Trivia[]

  • In the 2005 movie adaptation, Veruca is the only kid eliminated from the tour that is confirmed to not have permanent damage on her body due to merely being covered in garbage, as Violet permanently became blue and flexible, Mike permanently became tall but flattened, and while not confirmed, Augustus is likely to have been permanently turned into chocolate.
  • It could also be said that Veruca is the polar opposite of Charlie, due to Charlie being very nice to almost everybody around him while Veruca is nothing but rude to almost everybody around her.
