Vitaly Petrov is an additional character in the Russian version of Cars 2, but also made a cameo appearance in other versions of the film. He is a Russian race car that Lightning McQueen meets at the World Grand Prix welcoming party.
He was voiced by Vitaly Petrov himself.
Biography[]
In all versions of Cars 2, Vitaly appears on a postcard during the credits sequence. He has a bigger role in the Russian version of Cars 2, in place of Jeff Gorvette at the Tokyo welcome party, but not in any other parts of the movie. He and Lewis Hamilton greet Lightning McQueen and briefly start talking with each other. However, their conversation is cut short when they notice Mater talking to the Zen Master, prompting McQueen to leave. Vitaly later reappears in Mater's hallucination making fun of Mater with Lewis.
Appearance[]
Vitaly is a 2009 World Torque Champion League race car, which is based on the AMG-Mercedes DTM C-Class. He is painted red near his front, blue near his middle, and white on his rear and spoiler. He has a Russian flag design on his doors, as well as his hood. Vitaly is powered by a 4.0 Liter V-8 engine with 470 HP. He can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds, and accelerate to a top speed of 160 mph.
Trivia[]
- He is based on, named after and voiced by Russian former Formula One driver Vitaly Petrov/Himself. His paint job is designed after the Russian flag. It includes a car-ified version of the coat of arms of Russia, that replaces the two-headed eagle with a composition of wrenches, tailfins, nuts and cogs.
- He has the same model as Max Schnell, Long Ge, Frosty Winterbumper, Memo Rojas Jr., Flash Nilsson and Pyotr Racinov.
- Vitaly, just like the majority of Jeff's replacements, has no number in the film. However, he's assigned with the number 11 via the Ice Racers line of die-casts.
- In Cars: Fast as Lightning there is a car with the same nationality and the same model as him, named Pyotr Racinov, both of them are from Russia.
- This means that Cars: Fast as Lightning may have originally been intended to have Vitaly Petrov appear in the game as a playable character.
- It is also possible that Pyotr might've been made to be a replacement for Vitaly Petrov for the ICE update for the game due to copyright/licensing issues with the real-life Vitaly Petrov.
