~ Yourself referring to Herself, and his most famous quote, "Silly Billy".

Boyfriend, otherwise known as Yourself, is a major character from the Friday Night Funkin' mod Hit Single Real, serving as the opponent of the song "Silly Billy".

He is an alternate version of the canon Boyfriend who lost his version of Girlfriend, Herself, in a currently unknown way. The grief of his lost love has warped his body and mind, but despite it all, he just wants to have a battle against his alternate self to do what he does best.

He is voiced by Churgeny Gurgeny, the director of the mod.

Appearance[]

Yourself is a pale human with grayish skin, yellowed teeth, and messy blue hair. He wears a torn red cap, a tattered gray shirt with a red long-sleeved shirt underneath, torn jeans, and red untied shoes. His shirt has a marking resembling a circle crossed out. A dark shadow covers his eyes, leaving only a little bit of light shining in the darkness.

Yourself is shown to be able to contort his body seemingly at will, stretching and shrinking his body through twisting and turning his flesh and bone. Partway through "Silly Billy", Yourself shrinks down to match Boyfriend's size, making him appear far smaller in stature.

In the past, Yourself was slightly more akin to his canon counterpart. Before Herself's demise, Yourself's color palette was brighter, his clothes were flesh and clean, and the shadow over his face has not yet appeared, revealing his eyes to be fully detailed.

Personality[]

Through his only spoken words, Yourself seems to share his canon self's love for his partner. Yourself, in his grief, wants his love to awaken one last time to see how far he's come. Outside the mod, developer info has shown that the two genuinely loved each other when they were alive.

Yourself seems to have inherited his canon self's rashness and occasional immorality, chucking his microphone into his canon self's head in order to initiate a rap battle.

Biography[]

While not much is known at the moment, Yourself seems to have undergone a similar tale to the original Boyfriend, facing opponents and singing against them to live a life with his girlfriend, known as Herself. However, through some currently unknown fashion, Herself would end up passing away, devastating him immensely. He mind and body would shift, turning to the shell of the soul he once was.

Some time in the present, the canon Boyfriend would find himself walking along a hallway full of mirrors when he stopped to peer in his reflection. Placing his hand on that of his mirrored self, all seemed normal until a black microphone was thrown from the mirror. When Boyfriend came to his senses, out came his a reflection from another world, barely recognizable, and eagerly awaiting to challenge himself in a rap battle.

As of now, what happened to Yourself after the song ends is unclear.

Trivia[]

  • PhantomArcade, original character designer for Boyfriend, has stated that Boyfriend's height in-game is a sign of his relative innocence, despite the fact that he is canonically around seven feet tall. In this context, Yourself reflecting his actual height seems to be an indicator of his tragedy.
    • PhantomArcade has responded positively regarding the popularity of "Silly Billy", even drawing a doodle of Yourself during a livestream.
  • Yourself's design is based on the redesign of Lookalike, a character meant for Vs. Sonic.Exe. The original concept was thought up by Saster for the final song of the mod's story, the original design and many of his elements were created by the late Dividedoodles, and his current design was made by Doorknob.
    • While Yourself's lyrics are him calling out to Herself, they can alternatively be read as a tribute to Divide. The subtitles for his lyrics are written in the same font as the one found in Divide's memorial image in Vs. Sonic.Exe.
    • When Yourself switches from his shrunken form to his normal self, he lets out a laugh similar to Boyfriend's laugh during "Triple Trouble", the third song of the story mode of the aforementioned mod.
  • The thumbnail for "Silly Billy" is a reference to the 1847 painting The Fallen Angel, originally painted by Alexandre Cabanel. The original artwork depicted Lucifer after his fall from the heavens, similarly to how Yourself seemingly fell from grace after Herself died.
  • For a period of time, Yourself was envisioned as a transgender man, but was later stated to be reverted due to the decision being hastily made and overall not fitting with his character.
  • In response to fanart, Churgney has clarified that Yourself and Herself's relationship was akin to their canon counterparts', at least on Herself's end.
  • Due to Hit Single receiving updates semi-frequently, and due to more of Yourself's story being part of said updates, Yourself's status on this wiki is subject to change in the future.
