Zestial is a supporting character in the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel.

He is the oldest overlord in Pentagram City, who acts as one of the most reasonable members alongside Carmilla Carmine, and, like her, disagrees with the Vees' plan to attack Heaven upon discovering a beheaded exorcist, knowing that it would put all of Hell in danger.

He is voiced by James Monroe Iglehart, who also voices Vortex and Asmodeus in Helluva Boss, and Lance Strongbow in Tangled.

Biography

Not much is known about Zestial's past prior to the series, but he was presumably a human who died from an unknown cause and was sent to Hell for his sins. During the present day, he is the oldest Overlord in Hell, and has gained the respect of both Carmilla Carmine and Alastor, two other incredibly powerful and influential overlords.

In the pilot, Zestial briefly appears during the opening song, smiling after Charlie launched a signal to notify the citizens of Pentagram City that the Extermination was over.

In the episode "Scrambled Eggs", Alastor meets up with Zestial on the way to a meeting held by Carmilla and greets him. Zestial then asks Alastor why he returned after having been gone for 7 years and was now helping Charlie Morningstar with her plans, but Alastor refuses to answer on the latter.

At the meeting, Zestial greets Carmilla Carmine, who then announces her plan to minimize the casualties that would be caused by the next Extermination that was now occurring in half the usual amount of time, only for Velvette to appear, mock Carmilla, and show the other Overlords the head of an dead exorcist. She then suggests that they should start an attack against Heaven since they now know exorcists can be killed before the exorcists return.

Zestial, however, expresses disapproval at Velvette's idea, since the proof was still minimal and the decision to start an attack against Heaven could get all of Hell wiped out. Velvette, recognizing that Carmilla knew more about the exorcist's death then she led on, started mocking Zestial for his unwillingness to go to war, provoking Carmilla to defend Zestial and demand Velvette to show him respect, which Velvette also laughs off.

The argument ends with Velvette telling Carmilla that she knows the latter is hiding something and asks her what she knew about the exorcist's death, forcing Carmilla to cut the meeting short in a desperate attempt to protect her image. Zestial then goes to talk with a clearly sorrowful Carmilla in private and convinces her to reveal what she was hiding in order to make her feel more at ease.

There, Carmilla explained to Zestial and her daughters that she was the one responsible for the exorcist's death in order to protect her family, but tells them to keep it secret in order to not put them and all of Hell in danger. However, unbeknownst to them, one of the Egg Bois oversaw the entire thing, and later told Alastor about Carmilla having been the one behind the exorcist's killing.
