The Zinogre are a species that appears in the fantasy videogame, Monster Hunter Portable 3rd. They are large and powerful Fanged Wyverns that possess a unique symbiosis with Fulgurbugs, allowing the insects to nest in their fur while channeling their electricity for its own means. Many Zinogre were driven down from the mountains towards civilisation after the appearance of an Amatsu, hence why the hunter of Monster Hunter Portable 3rd was tasked with slaying them to protect civilians.
Why aren’t they heroic or villainous?[]
- They are mainly minding their own business until the hunter comes.
Official Description[]
Fanged wyverns whose bodies are streaked with electricity. Sharp claws and strong limbs allow them to thrive in mountainous terrain. During hunts, they gather numerous Thunderbugs to boost their power and enter a supercharged state.
Physiology[]
At first glance, Zinogre seems to be a quadrupedal creature with lupine traits. Its claws, fangs, and highly developed limbs are all present. Its two large horns are surrounded by white hair, tan bony spikes, and turquoise scales on its body. Upon closer examination, the horns and the spikes on the back of the monster show that they are porous, likely to house Thunderbugs when it charges itself.
Many of the furred and bony sections of its body will flash brilliant blue, and the spikes on its back and fur will stand up when it is charged with electricity.
An adult Zinogre typically measures 1455.4 cm in length. The zogre's face gives the impression that it is a wolf, and its forelimbs are exceptionally powerful and similar to those of large cats. Like Nargacuga, it is surprisingly agile for such a huge creature. Its powerful, muscular forelimbs are equipped with sharp claws that allow it to strike food and predators with lethal force. It also aids in their ascent over rugged and mountainous terrain. Similarly to a Lagiacrus, it can also use electricity to defend itself and its territory and to defeat larger prey. They are also incredibly resilient animals that withstand vicious strikes from rivals before striking back with equal vigor. When Zinogre is "charging" electricity, thunderbugs are observed congregating around it; they might serve as a source of energy. It's also conceivable that Zinogre has a unique bond with Thunderbugs because Gargwa are known to consume them.
Thunderbugs are protected by Zinogres only by flying near them as Zinogres hunt Gargwa. By absorbing the energy released by the bugs during combat, Zinogre may take advantage of this and acquire unique skills. Thunderbugs that have partnered with a Zinogre may glow blue instead of their typical hue. An energy field surrounds a Zinogre if you look closely at it. Compared to adults, juvenile Zinogre are whitish and have more body hair. The extra hair is thought to shield the juvenile's shell and hasten the electrical storage process. As the juvenile Zinogre develops into an adult, this fur will fall off. Their claws seem to change shape whenever they become angry, and experts are baffled as to why. They appear to shine both inside and out when supercharged. The spikes on their backs erect when they are supercharged to expel excess electricity, preventing them from hurting themselves or even dying from too much power rushing through their bodies. If and when they do pass away in this condition, the Thunderbugs will run away, realizing their guardian has passed away, and will look for another Zinogre to keep them safe.
Abilities[]
Despite its enormous size, Zinogre is an incredibly nimble monster that is capable of numerous amazing ground and aerial moves. Before striking with swipes from its well-developed forelimbs and tail—the latter of which are sometimes powerful enough to kill anything in a single blow—it mostly tries to outmaneuver its target.
Zinogre is special because it lives in harmony with Thunderbugs and can call them forth from the surrounding area by harnessing their innate electrical powers for its own ends. ZInogre contains them in its horns and spikes, and it utilizes them to quickly charge its entire body, however to do so it must cease movement and expose itself. When Zinogre builds up enough charge, its power and aggression will significantly rise. It will also be able to enhance its physical attacks with explosive bursts of lightning and sparks. It also acquires the capacity to call out lightning strikes from a distance and stun opponents with clumps of electrified Thunderbugs. If Zinogre takes enough damage, though, its charge can be dissipated, albeit it will then need to take a long to recover and function more passively.
Behavior[]
As lone hunters, Zinogres scavenge their region in search of prey. They are quite hostile and will attack anyone they see entering the area. They typically hunt small herbivores, though medium sized monsters such as Arzuros aren’t off the menu, making them the apex predators of most pf their habitats unless challenged by similarly powe monsters.
Zinogre resemble genuine wolves in several ways, including howling. However, they are solitary hunters rather than pack animals. It should come as no surprise that they are incredibly strong and nimble creatures who can defeat prey without cooperation. Witnesses claim that adult Zinogre raise their young and form herds. It is not a good idea to pursue Zinogre during this season since the adults will attack anybody who approaches their young too closely. Since one of them drove them away from the Sacred Pinnacle, they seem to be afraid of Amatsu.
Zinogre, a top predator that is known to hunt in both the Old and New Worlds, is probably rather high in the food chain and is only threatened by other apex predators like Tigrex, Rathalos, and Nargacuga. Zinogre are rather strong, though, even if they must share their hunting grounds with other predators. New World predators have been demonstrated to be able to hold their own against Rathalos and the vicious Diablos, two extremely strong monsters in their own right, at the same time. It is observed engaging in equal combat with other strong apexes like Yian Garuga, Glavenus, Brachydios, and related subspecies in the Guiding Lands. The Thunder Wolf Wyvern may flee in response to clashes with invaders like Savage Deviljho and Rajang, but only Elder Dragons like Kushala Daora and Namielle may make Zinogre take shelter. Large populations of Zinogre have been thought to have retreated into the mountains due to the presence of the Elder Dragon Amatsu. Zinogre prefers to hunt Bird Wyverns, especially Gargwa. Battles between Zinogre and the "Bubble Fox Wyvern" Mizutsune are well-known. The Lunagaron can compete with the Zinogre on an equal footing in both Shrine Ruins and Citadel, typically ending in a draw.
Habitat[]
Zinogres prefer the woods and marshes of the Old World's Sacred Pinnacle and Misty Peaks, although they have also been observed on the New World's Deserted Island during their winter migration from the Misty Peaks.
Zinogre has also been observed in the Old World's Siki Country and the Val Habar area. Heaven's Mount, Primal Forest, Sanctuary, Forest and Hills, Great Forest, Frozen Seaway, Jurassic Frontier, Jungle, Everwood, and Ruined Ridge are among the locations where they may be spotted.
Recently, Zinogre has started to show up in the continental new world's Guiding Lands, Ancient Forest, and Coral Highlands.
